Labshock 2.5: Automatic Mission Validation and Instructor Reports

Labshock 2.5 connects practical Missions, knowledge checks and instructor reporting. Instead of relying only on a student clicking “Complete” or submitting a screenshot, the platform can check whether a supported objective was achieved inside the environment.

Missions combine practical objectives with theory questions.

The practical checks evaluate defined conditions in the lab. Question grading checks submitted answers, while the system records attempts and mission results. These are separate parts of the assessment: completing an action and answering a question are not the same evidence.

Instructors can review completed objectives, question results, attempts and final outcomes alongside zone progress. For supported checks, this provides a report instead of requiring a separate screenshot for every task. Automatic checks support instructor judgment; they do not replace it.

Connect theory with practice

The learning sequence brings reading, practical work and validation together.

A student studies the topic, works with the environment and completes a Mission. Practical checks establish whether the defined objective was met. Theory questions help assess understanding of the concepts behind the task.

Easy, Medium and Hard provide a way to progress through different levels of difficulty. The aim is a repeatable cycle: learn, do, validate and repeat.

University use helped accelerate this work. The goal is to give instructors more time to explain OT systems and help students work through problems, rather than collecting and reviewing evidence manually for every supported objective.

Extend the same principle into community challenges

CTFs apply the same principle to live challenges with other participants: discover systems, complete objectives, answer questions and receive results tied to the exercise.

Missions focus on practical work. Daily Quizzes provide knowledge checks. Together, they connect access to an OT environment with ways to check progress through it.

OT security must be testable. Learning should be testable too.
