Labshock Releases Oilsprings: An Operable Oil Pumping Station for ICS Training

An oil pumping station built from SCADA visualisation and OpenPLC control logic, released as a controlled environment where industrial processes can be observed under both normal and manipulated conditions.

Oilsprings — the first Labshock industrial environment, an oil pumping station under SCADA and PLC control

January 10, 2025Labshock has released Oilsprings, the first industrial environment on the platform and the starting point for what became a full operational technology simulation.

The environment models a small oil pumping station. SCADA visualisation and OpenPLC-driven control logic run together, so programmable logic controllers, sensors and industrial actuators operate as a single cyber-physical system rather than as separate demonstrations.

Oilsprings is built around industrial accuracy rather than abstraction. Process flow, PLC execution and OT network communication are modelled to reflect how real industrial environments behave, which makes it possible to work through SCADA interaction, control logic and ICS exposure fundamentals on a system that responds the way a plant does.

The design decision behind the release is that industrial behaviour has to be observable before it can be secured. A process that only exists as a diagram cannot be manipulated, and a manipulation that cannot be observed teaches nothing.

Oilsprings established the foundation for the OT visibility and telemetry work that later became the World of Labshock ecosystem.
