Daniel Lowrie Builds a Full OT Lab on Camera, Start to Finish
A forty-minute walkthrough takes Labshock from an empty home lab to a running SCADA system, then works through the PLCs, the engineering workstation, the IDS and the offensive tooling.
August 29, 2025 — Daniel Lowrie has published a full walkthrough of Labshock on his YouTube channel, installing the platform in a home lab environment and working through it on camera.
The video runs from the prerequisites and the quick-start guide to a working system, then tours what is inside it: the SCADA interface, the PLCs, the engineering workstation, the intrusion detection system and Pentest Fury. The framing is the one the platform is built for — a controlled environment in which to learn PLC and Modbus behaviour, and to practise both defence and penetration testing against it.
Lowrie describes the install as among the easiest he has done, and recommends the platform as a starting point for anyone moving into critical infrastructure security.
The review also records how it reached him. Lowrie credits Mike Holcomb for mentioning the setup on a Simply Cyber panel — the same route by which most of the platform has travelled, from one practitioner to the next rather than through marketing.
